Intergenerational Program Database

Art classes are taught in assisted living facilities to children and seniors. Each class is taught by a professional art instructor and lasts about 90 minutes. Topics range from crafts to fine arts. Average youth age is 9 and senior age is 90!

During our bear building events youth and seniors make stuffed animals that are then donated to children in the local children's shelters. We make several hundred bears each year and most bear building events are held in assisted and skilled nursing facilities.

The Mission of Generations Crossing is to provide high quality, innovative adult and child day care for our ethnically and economically diverse community. We serve a population from ages six weeks to 99 years old currently. Keyword: Shared Site

Each week, our preschool and school age children and aging adults come together at Neighborhood House to share laughter, stories, and experiences that bridge generations. These intergenerational moments are at the heart of what makes our programs so special—nurturing curiosity in children, purpose in adults, and meaningful connections that strengthen the mind, body, and heart for everyone involved.

Grandfamilies is a support, counseling and advocacy service for family members who are raising a relative’s child. Over 4.5 million children in the United States are living in homes headed by relatives; over 82,000 of them are in Utah. Many of these families have a head of household that is a grandparent.

The Adopt a Grandparent Program pairs high school students with "grandparents" at Sunshine Terrace Assisted Living. The students visit their grandparents at least once a month. They participate in various activities including teaching technology skills, playing games , talking and getting to know each other.

Utah YOUth Connect is a service organization for students to visit with local senior citizens. They visit several senior citizen centers.

Senior prom has long been a rite of passage for America’s teenagers, a time to celebrate and dance with friends. We recently brought the fun and good times of prom to our residents through a mixer with local students from Viewmont High School. We used the beloved tradition of prom to bridge the generational gap, and unite “seniors” who may not have met otherwise. Everyone in attendance dressed up in their finest and enjoyed chatting, dancing, and tasty refreshments.

You can change a life by providing the individual attention that helps children build confidence and success. Opportunities are available in 4 San Antonio area school districts and 18 other U. S. cities. OASIS volunteer tutors are paired with children in grades K-3 who would benefit from a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Tutors are trained to work with kids using a proven approach to literacy that emphasizes reading, talking and writing. They meet with their students at least once a week throughout the school year, providing a caring, supportive environment where reading and language activities, keyed to the child’s interests, spark curiosity and learning.
