Blending the Generations is an 8-week community-based intergenerational program that promotes communication and collaboration among people of different generations. Participants engage in different activities that have them work together, including a talent show. The program’s goal is to reduce the effects of negative stereotypes and increase participants’ perceptions of generations that differ from their own.

Everlasting Knowledge Academy (EKA) is a newly founded nonprofit organization passionate about service. We are an intergenerational, faith-based learning center positively impacting the future by creating mutual understanding and appreciation of all generations. Our pursuit is to serve all ages, like a community center, teaching The Word as well as life skills and enrichment education. We have witnessed the adverse effects of the majority of young people not being taught and our elders not being treasured. We believe our multi-faceted approach will combat these issues while providing fun and affordable learning opportunities. Keyword: Shared Site

Music students from the Music Institute of Chicago give back through their local community by using music as a tool for connection. Students in this program connect with isolated older adults and other at-risk populations including the homeless and individuals with disabilities. Service programs include Musical Pen Pals, a 1-on-1 social and musical connection program conducted both in person and virtually, group performances at older adult living centers, and student music performances as part of Meals on Wheels food delivery.

Alive Together is a virtual program that harnesses online technologies to provide social-emotional support networks and a sense of belonging as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite intergenerational student volunteers to connect with isolated older adults by leveraging creative arts therapy techniques as a tool for increased human connection and well-being. Additionally, Alive Together supports young students by providing service-learning opportunities and beneficial intergenerational connections. Many of the young volunteers gain insight about themselves and the community by engaging with our programs. The curriculum is designed to be a 6-week evidence-based program meant to enhance connection and decrease isolation. Each session is dedicated to a different theme and discussion around topics of belonging, empathy, aging, and creative expression. This program is designed to shift negative cultural perceptions on aging, provide tools and knowledge for volunteers on effective communication (especially with older adults), and increase emotional/creative expression that promotes healthy aging for all.

ARECMA focuses on community self-management, cooperation and solidarity, and individual and collective social responsibility across generations. It serves the residents of the Mariana neighborhood in Humacao, Puerto Rico, by providing services and facilities that bring residents of all ages together. In particular, ARECMA promotes education and economic development through a summer camp, health and job fairs, recreational activities, and community events including the annual Breadfruit Festival. Through a partnership with families, friends, and children of Montessori ONE Academy, Amaran encourages inter-generational relationships and involvement. Imagine the opportunities for residents and children to engage in fun, meaningful, and culturally diverse activities like a pottery class, singing, painting, gardening, even drying chile peppers. Amaran has been designed with many multi-purpose spaces, both interior and exterior, that have been created to encourage residents and children to engage in mutually meaningful activities together, such as reading, exercise, gardening, cooking, woodworking, crafts and more. Bethesda Sharing Center offers loving, quality childcare in a unique intergenerational setting.

At our very own Early Learning Center, where staff’s children can play and learn with residents through various activities such as tree plantings, story time, swim lessons as well as countless other programs. These are memories that are treasured for years to come. Keyword: Shared Site
