A Day For Grands is a day in the summer that hosts activities that grandparents can enjoy with their grandkids

Our Intergenerational Rock Band brings together the young and old to sing, dance, and get a little wild. Once a week, a group of young adults comes to the Arbor Terrace at Crabapple. The group practices learning the lyrics to rock and roll songs from groups and singers like Bob Seger, the Beatles, and even newer groups like the Black Keys. After months of practice, the group will perform a concert out in the community.

CATCH brings children and adults age 50+ together to learn good eating and physical activity habits for a lifetime. The program combats obesity by engaging adults age 50+ as mentors to teach healthy lifelong habits to kids in grades K-5. Adults in the program benefit in several ways. Research shows that volunteers have lower rates of depression and mortality and greater functional ability than those who do not volunteer. As they promote healthy habits for kids and for themselves, they also experience the rewards of meaningful community service.

Mending the Gap offers FREE computer training to teach seniors basic computer and Internet skills so they can access benefits, such as food stamps and Medicaid, and email family and friends. Keyword: Shared Site

The Learning Center, located at Cypress Palms, is an experiential preschool that offers an engaging and interactive learning environment. Children from eight weeks through five years of age receive quality child care services from a team that is committed to nurture each child in their care. Our intergenerational activities bring mixed age groups together to share experiences, knowledge, and skills that are mutually beneficial and promote positive relationships. This one-of-a-kind learning environment features dedicated teachers, state-of-the-art equipment, a two-story tree house, a tugboat computer lab, and intergenerational experiences. Through partnership with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, students 14-18 years old participate in intergenerational programs, discuss the problems associated with aging and become sensitive to the elders’ needs. Activities include an Intergenerational Elder-Youth Visitation and Fun Time, an Annual Intergenerational Picnic and Sports Fest, Elder-Youth Gift Exchange for Christmas, Intergenerational Valentine Dance, Intergenerational Luau and Intergenerational Cultural Program.

A family is a loving, multi-generational, blended unit. Ours certainly is, which is why the Evalyn Sadlier Jones child care and learning facilities on our campus for infants and toddlers to age five are such an important part of who we are and have been for more than 20 years. Here, children learn in a safe, nurturing, educational environment. Rooms are filled with pictures, music, and playthings to stimulate young minds and imaginations. And an added benefit of our child care and learning center is the interaction between the children and Pines’ residents that enriches their lives through storytelling, arts and crafts, and entertainment.
