Intergenerational Program Database

LINK-ages consists of school and community people committed to expanding intergenerational activities in the DeForest area since 1992. Its mission is to develop and support programs and activities in the schools and community that mutually benefit students, families, and older adults. Programs include Meals on Wheels, Senior Prom, reading programs and an annual bingo party.

CATCH brings children and adults age 50+ together to learn good eating and physical activity habits for a lifetime. The program combats obesity by engaging adults age 50+ as mentors to teach healthy lifelong habits to kids in grades K-5. Adults in the program benefit in several ways. Research shows that volunteers have lower rates of depression and mortality and greater functional ability than those who do not volunteer. As they promote healthy habits for kids and for themselves, they also experience the rewards of meaningful community service.

Grandparents' University is designed for children ages 7-14 accompanied by their grandparent(s). All are welcome to participate! Classes will be offered in various classrooms across the UW-Green Bay campus.

Every summer, the Wisconsin Alumni Association hosts Grandparents University (GPU), a two-day program that brings children ages 7 to 14 and their grandparents together to learn from each other and to experience the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s dynamic campus atmosphere. You’ll have the opportunity to explore a “major” and participate in hands-on activities led by top UW faculty and staff.

An intergenerational program where teens and elders gather to bridge age barriers and change the social norm of aging through inspired conversation. Beginning two years ago, STEP has changed the lives of many elders and teens alike. STEP works to help eliminate isolation, strengthen the community and increase peace keeping efforts needed in the world today.

A group of 5 - 7 individuals from the community, each in a different decade of life, create and perform an original theatre performance based on the life stories of its cast members. The Company performs 4 different performances each season. The Intergenerational Theatre Company productions tour to local venues, bringing the performance to an intergenerational audience of over 700 people.

Children and residents of assisted living and long-term care facility interact

Josie's Learning Center serves infants, toddlers, and school age children from our community. The Learning Center provides a wide range of child care services ranging from infant day care, preschool learning, after school care, and ECEAP Preschool. The Learning Center program is integrated throughout our building with four designated classroom spaces and shared dining room, dayroom, and activity areas. The children learn important lessons from residents in assisted living, transitional care and long term care, while at the same time, enriching and energizing the life of our home. The St. Francis intergenerational program provides a wonderful opportunity for children and residents to establish nurturing relationships through spontaneous interactions and a variety of planned activities at senior’s discretion. Intergenerational activities range from a hug, a song, a storytelling session, to art projects, baking projects and even walks in the neighborhood.
