Intergenerational Program Database

CATCH brings children and adults age 50+ together to learn good eating and physical activity habits for a lifetime. The program combats obesity by engaging adults age 50+ as mentors to teach healthy lifelong habits to kids in grades K-5. Adults in the program benefit in several ways. Research shows that volunteers have lower rates of depression and mortality and greater functional ability than those who do not volunteer. As they promote healthy habits for kids and for themselves, they also experience the rewards of meaningful community service.

In B.A.B.E.S (Beginning Alcohol and Addictions Basic Education Studies)trained volunteers use animal puppets to educate students about substance abuse, coping skills and peer pressure. Senior volunteers serve as role models, developing caring relationships with students over the course of the five weeks they are in the classroom.

Often, some of our AmeriCorps members are under the age of 25. They provide support to older and disabled adults through direct service projects and collaborative efforts with schools, churches, etc. There are several instances of local schools in our area providing support to senior centers and senior meal programs. Support includes assistance with dining room and kitchen chores and musical performances. Additionally, a young person in the home schooled community helps deliver meals on wheels.

Sea Mar Child Development Center runs an intergenerational program that occurs in cooperation with Sea Mar’s Community Care Center. Through this program, children have an opportunity to interact regularly with seniors, providing new learning opportunities for our youth and the elderly. Keyword: Shared Site

The St. Francis intergenerational program provides a wonderful opportunity for children and residents to establish nurturing relationships through spontaneous interactions and a variety of planned activities at senior’s discretion. Intergenerational activities range from a hug, a song, a storytelling session, to art projects, baking projects and even walks in the neighborhood.

Josie's Learning Center serves infants, toddlers, and school age children from our community. The Learning Center provides a wide range of child care services ranging from infant day care, preschool learning, after school care, and ECEAP Preschool. The Learning Center program is integrated throughout our building with four designated classroom spaces and shared dining room, dayroom, and activity areas. The children learn important lessons from residents in assisted living, transitional care and long term care, while at the same time, enriching and energizing the life of our home. A group of 5 - 7 individuals from the community, each in a different decade of life, create and perform an original theatre performance based on the life stories of its cast members. The Company performs 4 different performances each season. The Intergenerational Theatre Company productions tour to local venues, bringing the performance to an intergenerational audience of over 700 people.

Create memories to last a lifetime during this unique intergenerational program for grandparents and grandchildren ages 7-14.
