Intergenerational Tutoring Program – San Diego Oasis

San Diego Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring connects adults 50+ with K–4 students for weekly, one-on-one support in reading (and early math in pilot sites). Volunteers receive training, materials, and ongoing coaching to guide a simple six-step session that builds skills, confidence, and a love of learning. Working closely with schools—especially Title I campuses—we prioritize students with the greatest need. The consistent, caring relationship benefits both generations: children progress academically while older adults find meaningful purpose and community connection.
