Grandfriends are New Friends

The Grandfriends are New Friends program is a Generations United Program of Distinction located in Caldwell, New Jersey.

The Grandfriend Program brings volunteer Grandfriends (people who may or may not be grandparents) into the preschool, both inside the classroom and within the larger school building on a regular bi-weekly basis. The Grandfriends are individually matched with one or two of the students in the ECC’s two classrooms of 4-year-olds. For each twice-monthly hourlong visit, the Grandfriends and the students gather to tackle craft projects, develop new skills, create holiday artwork, engage in conversation, sing, dance, and have fun. These interactions between the generations help the children thrive in an environment enriched by the presence of committed volunteers willing to share their life experiences and undivided attention.
