The goals of this program are to build lasting intergenerational relationships, reduce isolation and loneliness among nursing home residents, teach youth the value of respect, compassion, and community service, and create a positive, inclusive environment that bridges generational gaps. Activities include: Playing board games, cards, and puzzles with residents, celebrating birthdays and holidays with themed parties and crafts, participating in an “Adopt-a-Grandparent” program, where each student forms a special bond with a resident, listening to stories, receiving life advice, and being mentored by elders, and engaging in collaborative art, music, and storytelling projects. Participants report increased empathy, communication skills, and respect for older adults. Residents express reduced feelings of loneliness and improved mood. The program strengthens community ties and promotes mutual learning and appreciation across generations.
