Conference Plenary – Sankofa: The Art of Intergenerational Storytelling

Now in its 21st year, Generations United’s 2021 Intergenerational Conference (June 15-17, 2021) will be held virtually and will bring together 400+ intergenerational professionals, educators, caregivers, advocates, and enthusiasts from around the world to learn, connect, and share innovative practices and programs in the intergenerational field. Sankofa means “Go back and fetch it.” The Sankofa is a Ghanaian Adinkra symbol of a mythical bird with feet planted in the present, body moving forward, and neck craning back to keep sight of the past. This session will highlight two model storytelling projects that do just that each designed to build understanding, empathy, and connection between generations.
