Intergenerational Program Database

Middle School history students participate in an interactive presentation with four veterans from the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program. Students watch a presentation and YouTube clip about the history of our WWII veterans, discuss career decisions, and ask questions. Each student completes this service learning initiative by expressing their appreciation for veterans' services by making a card for a veteran participating in the Honor Flight program. (The Honor Flight program transports America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.) The cards are given to the veterans on their return trip from visiting the WWII Memorial that honors their service; we are told that this is the most emotional part of the veterans' journey. Our staff feels this program is a tremendous motivator towards life-long volunteering and a great deterrent from drugs, alcohol and gangs.

The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) mission is to "Promote, establish and preserve sustainable communities for healthy aging that benefit individuals and families of all ages." There is frequent intergenerational contact at this site.

The TRIP program is implemented at three intergenerational sites consisting of a child care center and senior center and/or adult day care center. The child care center serves children ages 2-5 and the Adult Day Care Center serves adults with different disabilities. Most clients are older adults with age related impairments.

A shared site Life Care Community and Child Development Center offering opportunities for children and older adults to build relationship through a variety of planned and spontaneous interactions.

Generations day care provides preschool and after-school programs in an intergenerational atmosphere. Adult Day Care offers daytime care for adults who have Alzheimer’s Disease, post-stroke symptoms, age-related disabilities, or other needs that require assistance or supervision. An on-site child care center where intergenerational programs are held that create stimulating and transforming moments happen between older residents with dementia and young children. Keyword: Shared Site

Utah YOUth Connect is a service organization for students to visit with local senior citizens. They visit several senior citizen centers.

Grandfamilies is a support, counseling and advocacy service for family members who are raising a relative’s child. Over 4.5 million children in the United States are living in homes headed by relatives; over 82,000 of them are in Utah. Many of these families have a head of household that is a grandparent.

Each week, our preschool and school age children and aging adults come together at Neighborhood House to share laughter, stories, and experiences that bridge generations. These intergenerational moments are at the heart of what makes our programs so special—nurturing curiosity in children, purpose in adults, and meaningful connections that strengthen the mind, body, and heart for everyone involved.

The Mission of Generations Crossing is to provide high quality, innovative adult and child day care for our ethnically and economically diverse community. We serve a population from ages six weeks to 99 years old currently. Keyword: Shared Site
