You can change a life by providing the individual attention that helps children build confidence and success. Opportunities are available in Jefferson County Public Schools and 18 other U. S. cities. OASIS volunteer tutors are paired with children in grades K-3 who would benefit from a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Tutors are trained to work with kids using a proven approach to literacy that emphasizes reading, talking and writing. They meet with their students at least once a week throughout the school year, providing a caring, supportive environment where reading and language activities, keyed to the child’s interests, spark curiosity and learning.

A Little Help's mission is to connect neighbors to help older adults thrive. As the largest model to grow out of the National Village Movement, a grassroots effort that began to support older adults in safely aging in place, ALH equips local neighborhood volunteers with the tools needed to fill service gaps and help older adults remain independent in their homes and connected to the community. It offers a range of intergenerational programs, including Teen Team, Scouts and Sages, Care Share, and Tough Talks to foster community, provide education to people of every age, and enrich the lives of elders and volunteers alike! The Tri-Lakes Senior Citizen Center is located on the grounds of Lewis-Palmer High School, at 1300 Higby Road. D-38 works in partnership with the center to encourage multigenerational educational opportunities. Keyword: Shared Site

The mission of GrandFriends is to unite two very important segments of our community, our elders and our youth – the wisdom and experiences of our past and the creativity and energy of our future – to improve the academic achievement of our young people. GrandFriends are an integral part of the educational team preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s world. Our retired and senior citizens with their multiple and valuable skills serve as talented mentors to our students. The students benefit not only from the sharing of these skills but also from the relationships they develop with the GrandFriends. Teachers continually praise the addition of GrandFriends to their classrooms. By creating an opportunity for interaction between senior and student, the child is helped, the older citizen feels useful and the community as a whole benefits through students who are better prepared for life’s work and to make positive contributions to society.
