    AGE to age is grassroots; through a guided planning process designed by the Northland Foundation, adults age 55 and older, along with youth, identify unmet local needs and devise their own solutions. Along the way, bonds of friendship form and civic engagement grows by leaps and bounds. The benefits to young people, older adults, and the broader community are far-reaching.

  2. University of Minnesota and Augustana Apartments
    Edward Ratner, associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Minnesota, is behind an initiative to have Univ. of Minnesota medical students and students from Luther Seminary live with senior citizens in the Augustana Apartments. Seminary students work at the Christian-based senior living facility for 12 hours a week and medical students interact with seniors to deepen their understanding of geriatrics. Students pay a discounted rental rate and eat meals, attend social, recreational or religious activities, and socialize with their older neighbors.

  3. Benedictine Health Center
    Provides Long Term Care, Adult Day Services, Rehabilitation and Early Childhood/Preschool on a180-acre wooded campus shared with the Monastery and the College of St. Scholastica. Over the years, our care centers and apartments have developed a household atmosphere - albeit a large household with over 400 employees and volunteers serving the needs of 300 guests between the ages of six weeks and 100+ years. This extraordinary pairing of young and old not only fosters meaningful relationships but is also adding life to years.

    On-site Head Start classroom with oodles of intergenerational activities. 100+ year provider of long term care, senior housing, adult day services and home health care. Faith based non-profit. Over 700 residents, tenants and clients served annually.

  5. Ehlers Intergenerational Family Center
    Center is located in Reede Gray Elementary School. Also at this address is the United Senior Citizens Associates. A preschool program called Discovery Time is held in the center and a series of classes called Kindergarten Connection--for pre-k kids and their parents--is held there.

  8. Central Michigan University- GrandparentsU
    GrandparentsU is a summer camp that brings grandparents and their grandkids together for three days of fun on the campus of CMU. This experience includes hands-on educational sessions conducted by faculty members along with other fun activities for grandparents and children ages 8 to 12.

  9. Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County- Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program
    Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) program provides grandparents, and other relatives caring for children, with information about self-care, children’s needs, and the assurance that families with generational gaps are not alone. Services include: Support groups that provide a sense of community for caregivers and the children in their care Newsletter with valuable updates on free and low-cost events and info around Washtenaw County Educational workshops and presentations to equip grandparents to better care for themselves and their grandchildren Resources, including financial assistance, clothing, food, etc.
