Students from Southwestern University bring baskets of produce to seniors enjoying a free lunch at the Mafella Hilliard Neighborhood Center. About 80% of the produce from the garden goes to seniors.

The Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) leads many intergenerational program efforts. These include: recruiting senior mentors and tutors into the schools; co-sponsoring an annual senior spelling bee; arranging joint performances with the high school and Sun City choirs; inviting veterans to be recognized at school Veterans Day ceremonies; and sending school buses to shuttle the Sun City “Booster Club” to high school ball games.

Art classes are taught in assisted living facilities to children and seniors. Each class is taught by a professional art instructor and lasts about 90 minutes. Topics range from crafts to fine arts. Average youth age is 9 and senior age is 90!

During our bear building events youth and seniors make stuffed animals that are then donated to children in the local children's shelters. We make several hundred bears each year and most bear building events are held in assisted and skilled nursing facilities.

You can change a life by providing the individual attention that helps children build confidence and success. Opportunities are available in 4 San Antonio area school districts and 18 other U. S. cities. OASIS volunteer tutors are paired with children in grades K-3 who would benefit from a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Tutors are trained to work with kids using a proven approach to literacy that emphasizes reading, talking and writing. They meet with their students at least once a week throughout the school year, providing a caring, supportive environment where reading and language activities, keyed to the child’s interests, spark curiosity and learning.

An on-site child care center where intergenerational programs are held that create stimulating and transforming moments happen between older residents with dementia and young children. Keyword: Shared Site

This is a shared site with adult day care and child day care. The program gives seniors and children the opportunity to build valuable bridges of friendship, acceptance, and respect. These golden bridges are nurtured through weekly scheduled activities while both adults and children reap the rewards of experiencing life together. Activities include exercise programs, arts and crafts, educational discussions, current events, games, modified sports, cards, movies, memory stimulation activities, field trips, music, spiritual time, and various special activities coordinated with community agencies.

Generations Connected is Community Care of Rutherford County’s on site Daycare and Preschool program. We offer services to the community at large, employee’s children and resident family members. Generations Connected fosters interactions between residents of CCRC and our children, developing a bond between generations. The residents and children come together on a regular basis for intergenerational activities. Keyword: Shared Site

Sharing is the keynote of our mentoring program with 6th grade students. Over an eight-month time period the students and Center in the Park members become partners through exchange of personal experiences, social history, family folklore and origins, blended with goals and ambitions. We meet for this rewarding experience once each month. Keyword: Shared Site
