During the months of June and July, center holds annual Camp Pickett that brings children to center

Friends for Life's Meyer Family Intergenerational Center has an outdoor area that has a playground for children, rocking chairs on a porch for seniors, and wheel chair swings. We have a library with large print books for seniors to read to children and children's books for children to read to seniors. We have a computer lab where children can teach seniors about computers, and we are creating a music room where older adults and children can learn and create music together.

The Air Force Village Employee Day Care Center is located in Freedom House, our center for memory-care patients. The children and the seniors love to play together. It makes the day more meaningful for both.

On this day, many youth groups from various congregations get together to make minor repairs, do yard work and paint seniors' homes. They may also plant flowers or do gardening crafts or cleaning. To help those in assisted living facilities, teens go and play games, read, and do light housekeeping. Students from Southwestern University bring baskets of produce to seniors enjoying a free lunch at the Mafella Hilliard Neighborhood Center. About 80% of the produce from the garden goes to seniors.

The Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) leads many intergenerational program efforts. These include: recruiting senior mentors and tutors into the schools; co-sponsoring an annual senior spelling bee; arranging joint performances with the high school and Sun City choirs; inviting veterans to be recognized at school Veterans Day ceremonies; and sending school buses to shuttle the Sun City “Booster Club” to high school ball games.

intergenerational program aimed at improving student achievement in reading for students in grades K-5 who reside in one of Woonsocket's poorest neighborhoods. Targeting students at Coleman Elementary Schools, the Generations of Learning AmeriCorps Project will consist of four full time and four part time Corps members as well as 18 minimum time members during the summer, ages 18 - 55+, who will work both during the school day, as well as in CCF's after-school programs. Members will utilize the Wilson Fundamentals reading curriculum during the school day, and will teach enrichment classes in the after school program.

The East Providence Reads Program is designed to enhance the literacy skills of young children of East Providence. Volunteers from RSVP provide their time and skills to help young readers in elementary schools achieve and improve reading scores. This once a week commitment runs from September until June.

Intergenerational program unites school-age children with residents residing in Nursing Homes throughout Rhode Island, the program operates during the school year students visit nursing homes and participate in planned social activities and provide a link to the outside communities Keyword: Shared Site

RSVP matches volunteers ages 55+ with over 80 non-profit organizations in Cranston in need of help from their community. Volunteers are placed according to their skills, life experiences, and interests. One volunteer program includes reading to children in elementary schools.
