Generations United 2008 Intergenerational Photography Contest

Guidelines for the Contest:

GU, with generous support from MetLife Foundation’s Healthy Aging Initiative, is holding a contest for young and old amateur photographers. The contest is for the best photograph taken by a younger or older person of younger and older people together, and should demonstrate the importance of intergenerational connections. The winning photos are often candid shots of intergenerational relationships in action. Purpose:

  • To capture the power and beauty of intergenerational relationships in action
  • To convey the important roles that younger and older people play in each other’s lives

Leading Categories:

·       Celebration of diversity

·        Emotional expression

·        Humorous situations

·    Intergenerational activity portrayed

·        Emerging Talent – outstanding photograph taken by an amateur photographer under 21 years.

 

Prizes:

·        Grand prize: $250

·        Second place: $100

·        Third place: $50

·        Honorable Mentions will be awarded in the five leading categories.

·        All winners whose photographs are used in any GU product will receive credit for the photograph.

 

Deadlines:

·        All entries must be postmarked to GU by March 31, 2008 in order to be considered for the contest.

·        Winners will be notified no later than 2 months after the deadline.

 

Photograph Standards:

·        Photographs can be either color or black and white.

·        Original photographs submitted with contest entry become the property of Generations United and will not be returned.

·        All digital photos must be high quality digital 300 dpi jpeg format.

 

Eligibility:

·        Contest is open to children and youth up to 21 years of age, and adults over the age of 50.

·        All completed entries received by March 31, 2008 will be considered for the contest.

·        Photos taken by professional photographers (individuals who have ever been paid for their photos) are NOT eligible.

·        Each contestant may enter no more than 3 photographs.

Official Rules and Regulations (also known as “the small print”):

·         Any and all photographs submitted may appear on any of Generations United’s exhibits, materials, or products, at GU’s sole discretion. By submitting an entry, each contestant and/or his/her primary caregiver agree: they have read, understand and will comply with these official rules; and, or to the extent permitted by law, consent to the use of the contestant’s name, likeness, and/or biographical data for purposes of advertising, promotion and sales by Generations United, without further consent, compensation, or approval. However, winning photographs are not guaranteed to appear on any GU exhibit or other printed materials.

·         By entering a photograph in the Generations United Intergenerational Photography Contest, each contestant agrees to assign all copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property rights in their winning photograph to Generations United, Inc., 1331 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005.

·         The prizes awarded may constitute income under applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and winners shall be solely responsible for payment of any and all taxes that may be due with respect to the acceptance of the prize (if applicable).

·         Contestants, by entering the contest, release, discharge, indemnify, and agree to hold harmless Generations United, Inc., its directors, officers, trustees, employees, agents, attorneys, representatives, successors, and assigns from all other claims, demands, damages, causes of action, losses, liabilities, injuries or obligations, direct or indirect, known or unknown of any kind, nature or description whatever which the winner, winner’s heirs, executors, successors or assigns may have or claim to have against Generations United, Inc., its directors, officers, trustees, employees, agents, attorneys, representatives, successors and assigns arising out of participation in or acceptance of any prize in connection with the contest, including any future use of the photographs.

·         Generations United, Inc., its directors, officers, trustees, employees, agents, attorneys, representatives, successors, and assigns will not be responsible for any claims or complaints from any recognizable persons appearing in photographs or their heirs, executors, successors or assigns, should these photographs be published or exhibited. By entering the contest, contestants guarantee that they have the right to submit their entries and have obtained any necessary permission of any recognizable persons appearing in photographs or their primary caregiver. The contestant agrees to indemnify and defend Generations United, Inc., its directors, officers, trustees, employees, agents, attorneys, representatives, successors, and assigns against any claims or complaints that may arise out of his or her entry.

·         Contestants will be responsible for all entry-related costs such as duplication, enlargement, and postage.

·         No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.
