8:30 – 10:30 AM

Tour the United States Capitol (2nd Tour Sold Out!)

All conference attendees and their families are invited to tour the US Capitol to see the art, sculpture, and architecture that represents our democracy.  This is a fantastic opportunity to stand under the Capitol's magnificent Rotunda and take in the Founding Fathers' vision.  A close-up look at where your elected representatives work is also great preparation for the advocacy forum and visits to Congressional offices later in the day.  The event is free but advanced registration is required.

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Intergenerational Legislative Advocacy Forum

Learn about current intergenerational legislation and what you can do to support IG.  As part of our Hill Day experience, GU will sponsor an intergenerational legislative advocacy forum for all conference participants and GU members. The forum will include presentations from members of Congress and advocacy experts on “hot” intergenerational legislation, the Generations United Public Policy Agenda, and information on how to make the most of a visit on Capitol Hill.  Conference attendees are encouraged to use what they learn during this session in afternoon visits with their members of Congress.

1:00 – 4:00 PM

Hill Visits

The afternoon will provide you with the opportunity to visit the office of your state’s congressional representatives to tell your story, discuss key intergenerational policies and advocate for support for your intergenerational program.  Before Hill Day, you will receive a resource packet in the mail describing how Congress works, what legislation is in the pipeline, and guidelines for setting up appointments with your members of Congress.  Materials will include information to help you develop talking points for your visits to congressional offices.

Conference attendees are encouraged to participate in both morning and afternoon activities. The morning forum is open to all participants regardless of whether afternoon Hill visits are scheduled.  Return to the Holiday Inn for the Opening Night Reception and Poster Session.
