Announcing the new Generations United Public Policy Agenda for the 111th Congress
At Generations United we believe the best public policies are those that use scarce resources more effectively to connect, serve and engage generations across the lifespan. Towards that end, we are proud to present the Generations United Policy Agenda for the 111th Congress.
Key Legislative Priorites:
• Give priority to communities that commit to building facilities that serve both young and old in economic recovery efforts and sustainable community development such as schools that include senior centers, Head Start centers engage older volunteers, and senior centers that are used for before and after school programs.
• Ensure policies are in place to guarantee grandfamilies benefit from the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, including working with the Department of Health and Human Services so appropriate and prompt implementation guidance is issued and reporting requirements are established to measure the impact of the Act’s numerous provisions.
• Promote intergenerational civic engagement and multigenerational activities by supporting policies that expand the number and diversity of volunteers in quality intergenerational programs and the number of innovative intergenerational program opportunities, including those that reach out to baby boomers.
Currently 13 organizations representing those who serve younger and older constituencies serve on the Generations United Public Policy Committee under the leadership of Howard Bedlin, Vice President for Public Policy and Advocacy with the National Council on Aging, and Jennifer Tuccillo Dexter, Assistant Vice President of Government Relations with Easter Seals.
