Winners of the 2008 Generations United Intergenerational Photography Contest

 Grand Prize

Grand Prize

Julianna B., age 16, Worcester, Pennsylvania

"This photograph was taken in my grandparents' backyard Easter morning. The subjects are my grandfather and my cousin, Grace. Grace is 2 years old and loves being outside, even on the coldest mornings. Because my cousin lives far away from my grandparents, my grandfather immediately put on his coat to join her. Grace is a very affectionate child and this photo, I feel, captures that, as well as the softness that comes to my grandfather's face whenever he is around her. A retired lawyer, it is interesting to watch as my grandfather interacts with her because the hard, serious face he normally wears melts away in her presence."

2nd Place & Humorous Situation

2nd Place & Honorable Mention - Humorous Situation

Lee Jenkins, age 52, Dexter, Michigan

"Elva J. and Braden S. from Generations Together create an intergenerational connection with bubble science.  Through the bubble they were connected as one.  Both were quite delighted with their shared creation.  This lesson taught more than just science, it gave them the ability to relate across the generations."

 IG Activity Portrayed

Inese Alvarez, age 56, Akron, Ohio

"The gentleman singing is a volunteer who was involved with teaching the students a song called "Don't Laugh at Me". The children enjoyed singing along with him so much that he invited anyone to come sing with him. The little girl rose her hand and said she wanted to sing "This Little Light of Mine".  She could've won the "American Idol" audition!"
